Activate the Escape mode!
Jump in and help the penguins to escape.
The slot has its traditional five reels and three rows, but it is a win-all-ways slot, which means that there are no actual paylines – anything goes! Essentially, landing any three symbols that are next to each other, regardless of which way the reels go, is a win. The reels themselves are set to a kitchen background where the penguins are forced to work for their evil Emperor.
There are a number of different symbols. The low-value ones are simply represented by the card suits – hearts, clubs, spades and diamonds. The higher-value ones are themed from the slot and include a meat cleaver, soup bowl, noodle box, soy sauce and soup pots. There is also a wild icon which triggers the Escape mode feature, and this is simply an icon with the word ‘Wild’ written inside, though it can expand to reveal a cleaver-wielding penguin.

Prior to jumping in and helping the penguins to escape, players need to get a grip on the way it works. To spin the reels, players need to make a small bet. This can be as little as 10p for a spin or as much as £125, thus allowing for a wide range of budgets. There is also an Autoplay function, where players simply choose the number of spins they wish to pay for. Hitting ‘go’ will see the game do the rest.
The game is a medium-variance slot, the sort much preferred by a lot of players as it means generally consistent wins with a decent payout. The slot also has an RTP of 96.2%, which is rather on the high end, giving players a good edge in the game. These odds are rather enticing, bringing in players to give this crazy new slot a few quick spins. It’s all about hitting that Escape mode, though, for the truly great wins.
Landing a wild on the second or fourth reel will activate the Escape mode. For the duration of this round, players will receive continuous re-spins until a losing spin occurs. For each spin, there is the possibility of adding sticky wilds or further symbols to guarantee some wins. This is where Yggdrasil shows off some of its skills as, between re-spins, penguins will try and jump to escape the Emporium. If they land on the reels, one of two events occurs.
Either a sticky wild is added to the second or fourth reel, or a symbol is swapped into reel three to create a winning spin. Throughout the game, it’s important to keep an eye out for the Emperor Penguin. If he lands, he is a stacked wild on the middle reel, guaranteeing a decent win; but when he is on the reels, no penguins will try to escape. His stacked wild is also a walking wild, moving one reel on each spin.
